Evolution & History of the
Sterling Municipal {Symphony}Band to 2018
anniversary since becoming a municipal band (The History of the band goes back
farther than that - check out the History page). It was a  great summer filled with
several guest conductors and soloists.  Jon & Cathy James worked diligently to bring
quality music and entertainment to Sterling. Countless pieces of new literature were
performed by the band over the years and the listing of quality guests is impressive by
any musician's standards. Under this leadership, the band even performed with dancers
and a magician, and participated in the National Community Band John Philip Sousa
Festival, in addition to traveling to Naperville three times by request to perform. We
had a blast with our musical family!
This website will be focused on the Sterling Municipal "Symphony" Band's History from as far back as what can be
researched to the end of the band's summer season of 2018. For current information on the band after August 2018,
please see the band's page on the city of Sterling, Illinois website. Since the webmaster of this site has more time to
dedicate to researching the band's history, please visit back periodically to see what has been discovered from the past.
