|How do I get in the Band ?
|1) Be a musician that strives for Excellence in Musical
2. Due to the nature of the band and the literature that is performed,
you must have the ability to read music.
3. Band Directors, Instrumental Teachers, Adult Musicians,
College Students - who are seeking a major or minor in music
education or performance need only to send a brief description of
your musical experience in the comment area above.
4. High School Musicians also need to send information on your
musical accomplishments to date including: instrument(s) played
and for how many years; the name of your high school and band
director and/or private instructor; Solo & Ensemble events you
have attended, All-State band selection if applicable; and what part
you normally play in your school ensemble(s). For example: " I
play second clarinet, 3rd chair" "I play first trombone,2nd chair"
"I play solo-chair flute and piccolo"
5. If you are hesitant as to whether you can handle the music, ask to
come and sit in on a rehearsal, in the section you would be playing
|How often does the band practice and
We start rehearsing for our summer season
around the last two weeks of May,
generally on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 pm
in the Sterling High School band room.
Then, we start our concert series the first
week in June on Wednesday evenings, at
7:30 pm in the Grandon Civic Center
located in Central Park, Sterling. We
perform a total of 10 concerts, going
through the first week in August.
Does the band play any other times during
Yes, we have an Annual "Pops" Concert
usually the first or second Friday in
January, and an Annual Spring Concert the
last Wednesday in April. We have 9
Wednesday-night rehearsals leading up to
each of these special performances.
The "Pops" Concert is held in the beautiful
Abiding Word church, and for this event
there is the option to partake of a hors
d'oeuvres buffet which includes desserts at
intermission. So you can bring your whole
family to listen to you perform and have a
great night out with no cooking for mom.
The Spring concert also brings with it the
option to enjoy a sandwich, chips, and
refreshing drink at 6 pm before the concert
with desserts at intermission. This concert
is held in Centennial Auditorium, inside
